Dr. Shefalika Verma was born on 9th August 1943, in the Bengali Tola of Bhagalpur in the house next to Sharadchandra’s house. Presently, the writer is a member of the Steering Committee and Executive Committee of Maithili Bhojpuri Academy, Delhi Government.
Dr. Shefalika Verma, who has been awarded the ‘Sahitya Academy Award’ for her autobiography ‘Kisht Kisht Jeevan’, is also known as ‘Mahadevi Verma of Maithili. The first woman to be the chief guest at the Mithila Cultural Society of UK, London. The author received First World Women Award, Lifetime Women Excellence Award, Atal Mithila Samman, Mithila Ratna, Umesh Mishra Gold Medal by Dr. Baburam Saxena for best Maithili writing, Yatri Samman, Mithila Vibhuti Samman, Karna Kayastha Swarna Samman, Hindi Sahitya Centenary Award, Language and literature have been awarded. And has also been recommended for Women of the Year in 2004 by the Biographical Institute North California.
Dr. Shefalika’s poem was translated into English from the University of Chicago, appeared in Penguin series ‘My Village’ and is in the syllabus of the board exam of England. Authoress English poem ‘My Love’ has been published in Globol Poetry. The authoress has been the head of Hindi department, Sarbanarayan Singh Saharsa College and is again retired from AN College, Patna and about two dozen books are published in Hindi, Maithili. She has also been a member of many government, non-government organizations, such as Text Book Committee, Government of Bihar, Mahila Bal Vikas Kalyan Samiti, Government of Bihar, etc. And you have also played an active role in the Jaiprakash movement. He has spent his life in removing social evils, is the life time ambassador of KKM organization, president of dowry free India etc.
